1.Dr. Rajendra Prasad (26 Jan 1950 – 13 May 1962)
First President of India and only one to serve two full terms. A senior leader of the Indian independence movement, he was also President of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the Constitution.
2.Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (13 May 1962 – 13 May 1967)
Renowned philosopher, scholar and former Vice-President of India. His birthday (5 Sept) is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India.
3.Dr. Zakir Husain (13 May 1967 – 3 May 1969)
First Muslim President of India. A respected educationist and advocate of cultural unity, he died in office.
4.V. V. Giri (3 May 1969 – 20 July 1969 acting; 24 Aug 1969 – 24 Aug 1974)
Only person to serve as both acting and elected President; known for his independent-minded leadership.
5.Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (24 Aug 1974 – 11 Feb 1977)
President during the Emergency period (1975–77). He died while in office.
